Happy New Year, Crossroads!

All of us at the Crossroads Community Association wish all our residents a happy, healthy and successful 2019. I expect the Association to have an outstanding 2019 based on what we have done in 2018. Think about all the new things that started in 2018 and will continue in 2019. Paint Nights, Yoga, Fit to Age, North Yeast Brewfest, Art at Crossroads, Aspen Crossing trip and more from our partners and user groups. We have indeed had an inspiring year and one I expect to be not only equal but improve on in 2019. Our regulars continued as well and thrived in 2019. Movie Nights, Pub Night, Seniors dinners and Drum fun.

January and February are interesting months to be involved with your CA. With much of the “action” and events die down and it is a great time to discuss new ideas, share thoughts on developments, traffic and other things going on in the community that the City of Calgary can help us with. Plans and dreams are made in January and February. Join us. Our Community Garden is planning an exciting fundraising event. The preschool will again be embarking on their annual fundraiser and the Scouting Group pasta night are all in our future early in 2019. The 3rd North Yeast Brewfest is set for April and I expect we’ll see more paint nights soon.

As President (and I hope you all consider running in September), I get the pleasure to talk about what we do here in Crossroads to other organizations and community associations. No event goes by without someone saying, “WOW, you guys are busy”. The only way that happens is with an amazing, dedicated and inspiring groups of volunteers. Every one of our volunteers inspire each other. It’s contagious. Having talked about all we are doing, we are an ambitious lot here at the Community Association. There is SO MUCH MORE we can and want to do. Build a Community Garden, put together a Community Development Plan and work with the city on traffic calming are amongst the ideas that come forward that need more volunteers to accomplish.

You know, I always love to remind you… “Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” Vote early, vote often!
